Spa Review: The Garden Spa, Warrington

Spa days are one of those experiences that should be a monthly necessity to stay sane. Unfortunately, this is not a luxury I frequent very often, however, when the recently renovated Garden Spa got in touch to see if I’d like to review their facilities, I leapt at the opportunity.

Based in Warrington, it was only a short 30 minute drive from home, which is pretty convenient, when all you want to do after a spa visit is have a snooze. It’s just off the motorway with an abundance of free parking. The Garden Spa is situated inside a complex with sports facilities, a gym, pool and library, which of course you are free to use all the facilities, pre or post spa day. As we were running late and the fact it was a Friday (who gym’s on a Friday?) we opted against a sweat session and proceeded straight to the relaxation part.

We were booked in for a Signature Spa Day. Costing £65 a person, it includes two 20 minute treatments which you can choose from a back massage, mini facial, scalp massage or foot massage, along with two hours in the thermal experience. It also includes robes, towels and flip flops, plus complimentary refreshments throughout the day. Read on to discover my review of The Garden Spa in Warrington.

First Impressions

Upon entering the spa it’s like walking into a calm oasis. Delicious aromas filled the air, dreamy spa music played and we instantly felt relaxed and at ease. We enjoyed some delicious pre-spa drinks, including a freshly made cappuccino and non-alcholic pink fizz, before we were led through to the changing area. We were greeted with our robes, towels and flip flops already laid out in our lockers, which was a lovely treat and meant we didn’t have to juggle our bags and spa essentials from reception. We really enjoyed the fact you didn’t need a pound or key for the lockers, they were operated by codes. I’m one of those that never has change and carrying a key around can be annoying, so this is a great bonus.

What was also a fabulous touch, was the spa’s signature skincare range was on display and available to use and test in the changing rooms. So whether you had forgotten makeup remover or needed a little moisturiser on your face in the thermal rooms, The Garden Spa had you covered. The products were divine, smelled lovely and all had a gorgeous texture.

We also really enjoyed the free running iced mint tea and fruit infused water situated just outside the changing room and Thermal Spa Experience doors. The perfect refreshing pick me up pre or post treatment.

The Thermal Spa Experience

We were slightly late to our appointment, so had limited time in the thermal spa area, but the time we did spend there was dreamy. We had the whole place to ourselves at 4pm on a Friday evening which was such a treat. The lovely therapists said they do not overbook so it’s always a very intimate feel. Plus, if you really wanted to guarantee a private experience, you can book out the whole thermal spa area, perfect for a hen do or birthday party.

The Thermal Spa Experience consists of:

  • Salt Inhalation Room
  • Aromatherapy Steam Room
  • Infrared Sauna
  • Sauna
  • Spa Pool
  • Heated Loungers
  • Ice Fountain
  • Waterfall Shower

Every single element has been so well thought out and is truly the best way to start your spa day at The Garden Spa. From the heated beds, to the salt inhalation room and ice fountain, you won’t get bored in this Aladdin’s Cave of relaxing, thermal delights.

During spa days you are welcome to relax for two whole hours in the divine thermal area, which I fully recommend you do.

This area is £22.50 to use for two hours for non-members of the club, or included with any spa day booking, which is such good value for money in comparison to similar facilities available in other spas.

Relaxation Room

Prior to our treatment, we were advised to treat ourselves to a few moments in the relaxation room. Well I wish I could have one of these rooms in my house, the office, the train station, you get the picture. The room is just perfection. Huge comfy beds, fresh water available, calming music and an oil infuser. It really is the ideal place to spend a few calm moments before your treatment.

Spa Treatments

After some much needed relaxation and girly catch up’s, we were ready for the final part of our spa day at this beautiful place.

We were booked in for a 20 minute back massage, followed by a skin specific mini facial. But before all of that, we were treated to an unexpected milk foot bath, which was an added bonus and delightful surprise. This is included with all spa days and I would seriously recommend.

Once our feet were suitable pampered, it was onto the bed for the start of our treatment. We were in a couples massage room, which was great, but of course you can opt for an individual room based on your needs.

I’d already discussed my problem areas with my therapist and she really targeted them. So often I find myself in a massage room, having spoken to the therapist about my problem lower back and neck, only to find them spend an hour on everywhere but, so it was a real joy to have those areas treated. From the way she worked into and released my knots, I could tell she was so experienced and my friend equally thought the same about her superb massage.

After having a mini slumber on the bed and feeling very relaxed, it was time to roll over for the facial.

The products used were The Garden Spa’s own brand and like I mentioned before, they really are great. My sensitive skin often becomes irritated when one too many products are applied in a short space of time during facials, but fortunately I didn’t experience any of this. It was so pleasant to just lie back and relax, knowing my skin was happy.

After floating on air for an hour or so, it was time to come back to reality. The luxurious treatments were over and it was time to return home. But not before some sound advice from our therapists, followed by another lie down in the Relaxation Room accompanied by some refreshing lemon sorbet and mint tea.

We were both so happy with the treatments. The knots in my neck from sitting at a computer all day and my friends lower back pain from lifting her 9 month baby all day were alleviated. What’s more we both exclaimed at the same time how glowing we both looked post treatment, with no makeup on!

All things considered, The Garden Spa is the perfect spot for a bit of R&R. Whether you need a post work stress reliever or weekend treat, this place couldn’t be more perfect.
