We all know when Valentine’s Day is, but what about the main event? I’m talking Galentine’s Day, which takes place annually on the 13th of February, conveniently the day before the (supposedly) most romantic day of the year. What’s Galentine’s Day you ask? Allow me to let the fictitious woman who started it all, explain it,
“Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
The quote, of course, comes from Leslie Knope, the star on one of the funniest hit TV shows, Parks and Recreation, played by the ever hilarious Amy Poehler. So why not save all your inner Jane Austen romance for your significant other on the 14th and dedicate the 13th to your closet girlfriends. And what better way to do this than share a day of pampering and makeup? Well that’s just what me and one of my best friends did, so check out what to do for Galentine’s Day below.
Galentine’s Day at Selfridges
We headed to Selfridges for a little pampering and fizz and we were could not have had a more girly day! Starting in the beauty hall, we had a full makeup lesson with Bobbi Brown, one of my favourite brands. Our skin was prepped, refreshed and cleaned before our choice of looks was applied. I went for a natural look I could wear to the office and also asked for some contouring tips, without going all out Kim Kardashian, ain’t no one got time for that in the morning. Whilst Emy asked for a smokier eye and for some eyeshadow tips along the way. The Bobbi Brown girls were amazing, they really listened to what we wanted and gave us so many tips that we both now put into practice. For example, leaving your oil or moisturiser for 5 minutes before applied your foundation. I also learnt that the little bumps under my eyes mean my skin is dehydrated, so I’ll definitely be investing in an eye cream from now on! They kindly gave us some little samples to take away before we dedicated to buying the full size product, something I really appreciated because it can be off putting when you are pushed into a sale. You can book your own Bobbi Brown appointment here.
After they had written down all the amazing products they had used so I didn’t forget, we were lead up to the Selfridges Champagne Bar. The perfect place to catch up other a delicious glass of premium champagne, mull over your purchases, people watch and share all the Galentine’s love! I would definitely recommend the smoked salmon blinis, I could have eaten 20.
If that wasn’t enough, you can get your hair blowdried by Dyson in store too. Perfect if you’re heading out on a Valentine’s date the next day, it’ll last for sure. All it took was a little dry shampoo and in 15 minutes the lovely ladies had us walking out the door with the sound of Taylor Swift in our heads, swish, swish…
If you want to treat your bestie, your sister, your mum or whoever the special lady is in you life for Galentine’s I couldn’t recommend a visit to Selfridges more. They truly have options for everyone, you definitely couldn’t get bored and could spend hours there. You will absolutely leave in a bubble of girlyness, smelling delicious and looking fabulous.
